Hey everybody! How have you all been? Well, let me tell you what I've been up to in the month of June up until today. Quite a bit has happened publicly, as we all know, which I will touch upon here.
For me personally, it wasn't a very eventful month, especially after my graduation and the party afterwards. It's actually been nice to have a lot of free time, for once, after the hectic final months of college. I have recently purchased a Dazzle capture device for my computer, specifically so I can upload higher quality gameplay videos to my YouTube channel ([link]). I'm still working out some bugs, such as audio/video lagging, but hopefully my computer can be fine tuned to handle it all. Maybe one of my friends can help me out, as he's much more tech-savvy. In other news; I uploaded a huge amount of photos I had to both my MySpace ([link]) and Facebook ([link]) accounts, also, don't be afraid to add me to your friends lists on either sites. Just be sure to let me know who you are! More recently, I saw the film Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (REVIEW: [link]) as well.
Now let's move on to the more public developments that have happened, mainly deaths of big name celebrities. The former announcer of the (late) Johnny Carson's iteration of The Tonight Show, Ed McMahon, passed away at 86 years old. Now I was too young to watch the comedy team of Carson/McMahon, but you can't help but look at them for being the people who set the standard for late-night television. He will definitely be missed for that, as well as the more recent charity organizations he was associated with. Then a couple days later, Farrah Fawcett, most famously known as one of Charlie's Angels, lost her battle with cancer at 62 years old. It was definitely hard to see her struggle through this deadly disease, and it was hard to accept that this day would be coming soon. I am too young to remember her in her heyday, but she definitely looked very beautiful. It's another tragic loss.
The next was of course completely out of nowhere, and took all of us by surprise. The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, unexpectedly passed away from a supposed cardiac arrest at 50 years old. This was completely surprising, it's really just hard to believe. Now I'll admit that I was never that much of a fan of him, but it's no doubt he was a legend in music. It's definitely a tragic loss for all of his fans and for the music world, and it's going to be hard for the music scene to recover from this. But my thinking is this, it should be a time to celebrate his life and what he accomplished. Rather than be depressed and sad about his death, that's what I think any death should be treated like. Then lastly; there was the other surprising death of pitchmen Billy Mays, when he passed away from a supposed heart attack at 50 years old. It's sad, because he had a very memorable voice in those commercials. To all four of these celebrity families, I wish my condolences to them through this difficult time.
So that's were we are about now. I'm hoping July will be a month with less deaths of notable people, which I think we can all agree on. That's about it for now, for me. I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Father's Day, especially my father, who always works hard to make sure our family lives in a great home. Thanks, Dad! I also hope my mother had a Happy Birthday, and I'm glad we were able to celebrate it as a family. Finally, I wish all fellow Americans a safe and Happy 4th of July. Go out and enjoy those fireworks, I'll be doing just that tonight. I'll see you next time! Keep it cool, and keep moving forward.
URGENT UPDATE!
There has been a tragic accident involving two monorails at Walt Disney World. At 2:00am on July 5, 2009; one monorail crashed head-on into another at the Transportation and Ticket Center (near the Magic Kingdom, specifically on the TTC-Epcot track). While details are still flooding in, I can't keep updating this constantly so I'm giving a general feeling of what I know about this. The good news is that there were hardly any guests riding the trains at the time, and no guests were injured. The bad news is that one driver, 21 year old Austin Wuenneberg, was killed in the accident. This is the first fatality in the monorail's close to 38 year history, but that still doesn't change the fact that the system will definitely be analyzed by WDW officials for safety measures. As of right now, both the TTC-Epcot trains as well as the TTC-MK resort trains are not running until further notice.
This is just awful news, and the pictures are hard to look at. There's even a video that someone had the gall to record and post up on YouTube, which I have seen just shortly ago. It's...chilling, to say the least. While I obviously wish for these issues with the monorails to be fixed properly and make sure everything is running safe, there's the bigger picture in front of us. I give my heartfelt condolences and prayers to the victim's family and friends who are in a very difficult time right now. I have a feeling that Walt Disney World is going to take a little bit of time to recover from this, but I'm very sure this time will be taken to ensure something like this never happens again. Let's not give up that hopeful spirit everybody, we have to keep remaining positive even though the most difficult times.
